Introduction Post of a Marathon Runner Who Binge Watches Netlfix Shows

Hi my name is Victoria Quick. I am from Lawton, OK but I was born in New Jersey. My major is Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry. I think the coolest thing about microbiology is working with bacteria and educating the public about what these bacteria do. It is also interesting to learn how bacteria play a major role in our lives everyday. Such as, producing antibiotics, fermentation of certain foods, and causing diseases. I hope to go to graduate school for microbiology or marine biology, but I am not too sure what universities to apply for yet.

I have a pet cat named Alex and a pet turtle named Squirtle, both are girls. Here are their pictures :)

Both these photos are personal photos

I have ran 4 marathons so far in college! My first one was at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. It was the Bataan Memorial Death March in honor and memory of the soldiers who defended the Philippine Islands during World War II. While doing the marathon, it was grueling and difficult but it definitely was rewarding to finish. Here is more info about the marathon. I've also ran OKC marathon twice and the Tulsa marathon.

This is a personal photo of the team I was on for the Bataan Marathon. I am the one in the middle!

I have three younger siblings, their names are Sebastian (13), Julian (7), and Delilah (4). They are major pain in the butts, but I love them a lot! Also, Julian was born profoundly deaf in both ears. Fortunately, to todays science and technology, Julian has cochlear implants which help him hear! Here is the homepage of cochlear implants.

When I am not studying or working I usually watch shows on Netflix or Hulu. I recently finished Gilmore Girls on Netflix, so I started The Resident on Hulu. I am currently waiting for the new season of Grey's Anatomy to start again so I can watch that also. Despite all the fake medical drama shows I watch, Doctor Who is my favorite television series to watch! I am behind on the seasons so no spoilers please!

  1. The microscopic world is not something I know a lot about, Victoria, but I sure do like the petri dish art that I see people sharing at Twitter; it's amazing AND beautiful: Petri Dish Art.
And how great that you have a pet turtle! So far nobody has added a turtle to the Pet Padlet: you could be the first... along with your lovely Alex. Here's the "Pet Padlet" -- Padlet Tech Tips, which is a fun way to do an extra credit Tech Tip thing.
And... I absolutely LOVE Doctor Who. Tom Baker was my first Doctor, and my favorite is still Eccleston, but I adore them all. If you want to do some Doctor Who storytelling, that is a powerful style which can go anywhere/anytime and include anyone/anything. The more Doctors the better, I say! :-)

  2. Hi Victoria :)

I am so excited that you are in this class. It'll be fun to have someone to talk to about this topic now! I really hope you enjoy learning about the stories and books that shaped my own childhood. Your pets are so cute! I did not realize turtles live in the water...I suppose we all learn something new everyday haha. Also, I am so stunned that you have ran 4 marathons! I am currently training for the OKC marathon in April. It is ridiculously hard and I'm only at 4 miles right now. Please teach me your ways! It is so good to have a friend in here. It's so nice to finally have a class with you even if it is online. I'll see you around! ;-)

  3. Hey Victoria.

I saw that you're from NJ but moved to OK. That's ironic cause I am actually from south Jersey myself. I'm not sure if you moved when you were a baby or if you have any memories of the north east, but if you do, please tell me you remember how good Wawa is. I wear a Wawa hoodie to class sometimes, and nobody down here knows what it is, so it's nice to know someone else who recognizes real hoagies. Your pets are super adorable! I have never had any pets, but I've always been a cat person so Alex really caught my eye. It's crazy that you've already done 4 marathons, I could never do more than a 5K. And I only watched 1 season of doctor who, but from what I can gather, David Tennant is the best doctor.

  4. Hey Victoria! I love the name of your cat definitely one of the best names out there! I've always wanted to run a marathon but I am more into weight lifting and don't think I'll do one soon unfortunately. I also like medical dramas, but my favorite one is House. I also have 3 siblings aged 19,16,13. I love being the oldest even though it used to seem so hard. One of my good friends also have implants to hear and I think the technology that makes them work is amazing. It was great getting to know you! Alex

  5. Hi Victoria!
I really admire your motivation to do so many marathons! I love to run but for some reason have never become amazing at it, I usually just run 3-4 miles at a time, so I can't even begin to imagine the marathon in New Mexico that you did, congrats!
A big part of my life are my siblings as well. I have a sister named maggie who is a year younger than me (21), a brother named Jackson who is 16, a step brother named Archer who is 25, and a step sister named Alyx who is 26. Since Maggie and I are so close in age we are super close, but I love my other siblings just as much!

  6. Hi Victoria! I actually found MBIO to be one of my favorite science classes I've taken. I took it later in my college career and wish I took it earlier so I could have possibly taken more classes. I think it is awesome you have not only run one, but four marathons!! I am currently trying to run a half marathon but even that I find hard training for. I think it is especially inspiring the reasons you ran for it. Also those are some cute pics of your pets!

  7. Hi Victoria,

Your cat is too precious. Your turtle has am amazing name! I think your major is so fascinating. Most people who don't know would assume bacteria is bad but they have important roles in our lives. WOW. I can't believe you have been a part of so many marathon. You have great taste in shows. Grey's Anatomy has been playing with my heart for 15 seasons and three still more to watch. I hope you are excited about the new season that just started airing as I am.

    1. Hey Victoria, hate to repeat what everyone else has said but both your cat and turtle are super adorable. Both very majestic pictures, I admire that. I had a turtle growing up but unfortunately it was too cold for her where i lived so I had to give her up. I think it's really cool you've ran so many marathons. Personally I hate running but I admire your dedication.

  8. Hey Victoria! That is awesome that you are studying MicroBio and have a major in Chemistry. What made you interested in Marine biology? You mentioned that you would love to educate the public on bacteria and what they do, so would you consider going into Public Health or have an idea for what job you might want?
Also, very cool that you have a turtle and his name is Squirtle haha.
I am from New Mexico and have visited White Sands. It is such a cool and historic site but their is nothing really out there, just lots of sand! I don't know how you could run, especially out their in that desert heat but that is awesome! I am in no way a runner; I prefer to swim.

  9. Hi Victoria, both your pets are super cool. I can see where you got the inspiration for your week two story. Just running one marathon is super impressive, but you've managed four. Wow! What did your times look like? I like running the odd 5k because they're fast, but marathons seem daunting. Studying marine biology for graduate school seems like a great excuse to go to school on the beach in somewhere like southern California. Hopefully you find a graduate school that fits you.

  10. Hi Victoria!

First of all, I think your study of Microbiology is really cool! I am a Letters and Religious Studies dual major, so science and mathematics are not majorly my thing. However, I do enjoy learning about different information within those fields. Both of your animals are adorable and I myself own three cats. Their names are Pyg, Seamus and Bronson. I also love Dr. Who, but I am not a fan of Capaldi so I stopped watching after a few episodes of Capaldi. Hopefully you enjoy Capaldi more than I!

  11. Hey Victoria! My family moved to Lawton a few years back, it is always good to see another person from Lawton! I think it is awesome that you did a marathon at the White Sands Missile Range. I used to live in El Paso, Texas, so we would constantly go down to White Sands and sled down the sands. It brings back good memories. I faintly remember watching Gilmore Girls when I was younger. That was a show my family would get together and watch, so I might check it out on Netflix.

  12. Hey, Victoria! I have just recently gone to Lawton to hike in the Wichita Mountains. I had a lot of fun, I love to hike and I don't get many opportunities to hike here Oklahoma. I am a Gilmore Girl fanatic, I used to watch it with my mom when I was growing up, it was "our thing". Good for you for running marathons, I hate to run unless I am chasing after a ball, like in soccer.

  13. Hey Victoria!

That's so cool about the marathons! I have a lot of admiration for people who can run like that, especially because I definitely can't. The Bataan marathon sounds particularly cool! Your picture from New Mexico looks particularly beautiful, but I can see just how grueling it would be to run in that wide open heat with no shade or water nearby.

You and your siblings cover a really wide age range -- must be a crazy and fun time at home.

    Best,
    A.

  14. Hi Victoria! I had no idea you were a runner! I also love to run, and I hope to one day be able to complete a marathon. Kudos to you for having made it through four of them - I have so much respect for the strength and stamina it takes! My mom and dad have been part of the running scene in the DMV for many years, and my mom actually works as an announcer for different races in the area. Doctor Who is also my jam, although I stopped watching after Matt Smith's season. I keep meaning to get back to it, especially now that the Doctor is a woman, which I find amazing!

  15. Hey Victoria! My father was born in at White Sands Missile Range and the house he grew up living in is now within the missile range! My uncle recently went to do the Bataan Memorial Death March and he was able to see the old house! What an awesome thing to do marathons. I really want to do one some day. I've always liked running and exercising but marathons are kind of another level!

  16. Hello Victoria! Best sentance ever: pet turtle named Squirtle. I loved it, and the pictures of your pets! Is Alex ever very interested in Squirtle? And where did Squirtle come from? I am very impressed with the fact you run marathons! I cannot imagine the dedication, and training that must go into marathon running. Were you always a runner? I see where you enjoy medical shows. One of my fave shows is The Good Doctor, although I have not watched it the last few weeks. It was fun reading your Introduction! Thanks for sharing!

  17. Hi Victoria!
I have barely run one marathon in my lifetime so I am definitely in awe of your tally haha! Your pets are real cute, and you seem to know a lot of TV shows so I'm not surprised you cleverly named your turtle Squirtle. I've taken one Microbiology course at OU so far, and the lab has been my favourite since coming here. I thought it was so cool. I love how you included links in your post as well. It was very nice to meet you!

  18. Hi Victoria!

I am from Lawton, too. Your name seems familiar. Did you go to Eisenhower High? I think it is so cool you have a turtle! I love watching Netflix too, however, running and I have never gotten along. I can't believe you run Marathons! Doctor Who is on my list but I have yet to watch any of it. It as nice to meet you!... Or maybe get reacquainted?

  19. Hello, Victoria!

First of all, microbiology sounds very complicated and difficult... especially because I'm a music major! I think you are working towards for a very respectable degree, so you should be proud of yourself!(: You should also be proud of yourself for running four different marathons!! I used to love distance running, but I don't think I would ever be able to make it that many miles. It's cool that you have only little siblings... I'm actually the youngest so I know what its like to be the pain lol.

  20. Victoria,

It is great to meet you. You sound super passionate about Microbiology which is great. At one point in my life I actually wanted to become a Marine Biologist, so that is pretty cool you are thinking about that career choice. Also, I cannot believe you have participated in so many marathons. I bet that took a lot of dedication and training. Kudos to you! I am fortunate if I even make it through a 5k! Haha. Have a great semester.

  21. Hi Vixtoria,

I am glad you are so passionate about your major because honestly, I have not heard a lot people get excited about bacteria. We obviously need people like you who enjoy studying it in order to better the planet! I am also super impressed by your love for running. I love to workout, but I cannot stand running so I cannot imagine running one, let alone four, marathons.

  22. Fantastic choice for your turtle's name! I like that you simply added links to sources for people to have the option to further explore things that they may not be as familiar with. Doctor Who is a fabulous show and whoever disagrees does not matter. I guess I should be nice, but I love the show. I also think your cat is super cute!

  23. Hi Victoria!

Your pets are so stickin' adorable! I love cats, and your cat is just looks like the sweetest thing ever! Also, I really love the fact that you have a turtle named Squirtle because Squirtle is such a OG Pokemon LOL.
I think it is super cool that you have participated in four marathons! I, on the other hand, am extremely unfit, so I totally admire your ability to run long distances.

  24. Hi Victoria! Though I am most certainly a dog person, I think Alex is the cutest cat I have seen. I have two pups and sometimes my girl will sit back like that. Sometimes she’ll even put her elbow into the couch and it’s so incredibly human-like it’s weird. I am also a huge fan of Doctor Who! How far back are you? Who’s your favorite doctor?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hi Victoria!
I love how you named your turtle “Squirtle.” I’m also a fan of Pokémon. I used to play it all the time back in elementary school.

Who’s your favorite character in Grey’s Anatomy? Mine is Christina Yang, until she was cut off from the show. Her relationship with Meredith Grey is goals to me. I’ve watched the show over three times. I like playing it in the background while I’m doing homework or studying.

  26. Hey Victoria,

Microbiology is really cool because of all the practicality that it has both in health and in food. That's why I got into it because I could see how it mattered in the big picture. Marathon running is one thing that I wish I could do, but I just don't think it's in the cards for me. Short bursts seem to be my thing (tennis) and I can do it for hours, but I can barely run a few miles. Medical dramas are okay but I am a fan of the medical comedy, Scrubs. Apparently it's pretty accurate to reality except for the comedic scenes.

  27. Victoria, it was great getting to know you through your introduction post. Your life seems very interesting and I agree that bacteria are an interesting thing to study. I love turtles and tortoises. I don’t own any currently, but I use to have a red eared slider named crush. He was amazing, and I enjoy learning more about turtles and tortoises! Good luck to you on your future endeavors.
