Reading Notes Week 12: The Tricky Wolf and the Rats

Author: Ellen C Babbitt

A Big Rat lived in a forest with hundreds of other Rats. These Rats called the Big Rat the Chief. One day a Tricky Wolf noticed the group of Rats and decided he wanted to catch them, so he started to plan. He wanted to eat the Rats but didn’t know the first thing about catching the Rats. He finally figured that he could stand by the corner near the Rats home and waited until he saw one of the Rats. When the Tricky Wolf saw one of the Rats he stood up on his hind legs. The Chief rat asked the Trick Wolf why he was standing on his hind legs. The Tricky Wolf said because he was lame, and it hurts to stand on his front legs. Then the Trick Wolf told the Rat that he cannot run or walk so he stays on the corner and tries to not complain. Then the Rats left to and talked to the Chief of the Rats. The Chief of the Rats felt back for Tricky Wolf, so he sent Rats out every morning and night to talked to the Tricky Wolf. Every time the Rats went out to visit with the Tricky Wolf, he was able to catch one of the Rats to eat. The Rats started to notice and said something to the Chief. The Chief figured it was the Tricky Wolf. The Chief told the other Rats to go first and he will go last. So when the Rats left from visiting the Tricky Wolf, he tried to grab the Chief but he was too slow. The Chief was angry with the Tricky Wolf so he told the Tricky Wolf that you’ll never play a trick again and sprung at the Tricky Wolf’s throat. The Tricky Wolf died.
