Week 5 Story: The Hulk

It was a nice summer afternoon in New York City. The birds were chirping, people were walking in the park, and the NYC motorcycle group were out riding their motorcycles. Among the motorcycle group was Steve Rogers. Without any recent terror in NYC, Steve was able to relax and ride his motorcycle without worrying about who was going to attack next. However, Steve did grow weary, as he did miss all the excitement from fighting and his friends, Tony, Bruce, and Natalia.

While Steve was reflecting on his life, all of sudden there was a crash from the park. He knew he couldn't fight whatever it was on his own. So he called for backup. He contacted Tony, Bruce, and Natalia.

"I need everyone to suit up. There's a strong enemy in the park. We need The Hulk, Bruce. Can you get him to come out?" Steve told Bruce.

"I can try, but it probably wont work. He's angry with me. So regardless of how angry I am, he wont come out unless he wants to right now" Bruce explained to Steve and the others.

So Tony, Natalia, and Steve suited up so they were Iron Man, Black Widow, and Captain America. All three of them threw items at Bruce, hit Bruce, and threw Bruce into the water. Captain America threw his shield multiple times at Bruce to hopefully bring out The Hulk, it didn't work.  Black Widow hit Bruce constantly for 10 minutes, again, it didn't work. Iron Man picked Bruce up and flew him over the Hudson River and dropped him from the air, of course that didn't work either.

Admitting defeat for failing to bring out The Hulk, the four of them decided to go see who was terrorizing people in the park. Turns out, it was Loki. Of course of all people.

"What are you doing here Loki? What do you want now?" Iron Man said out of annoyance.

"I want what's mine and tha-" Loki was stopped mid sentence, as all of a sudden he was attacked by The Hulk! Loki was thrown around, slammed into trees, and received many broken bones from The Hulk.

"Apparently all we need was Loki to trigger The Hulk!" Laughed Black Widow.

Unfortunately, The Hulk would not stop beating Loki up. Loki became close to death and Captain America knew if he'd let Loki die, Thor would not be happy with him, Iron Man, and Black Widow for allowing The Hulk to kill Loki. So like any natural leader would, Captain America decided to stop The Hulk and save Loki.

Black Widow came up behind The Hulk and cut both of his Achilles heels to immobilize him.
Then Iron Man shot blasts at The Hulks arms so he can let go of Loki. Finally, Captain America used his shield to first knock out The Hulk. Thankfully, for their teamwork, the were able to calm down The Hulk and bring Bruce back.

"Okay Loki, you need to leave for good. We'll get in touch with Thor to come get you" explained Iron Man.

"I guess I'll wait then" Loki says. Source

Authors Note: I related this story to Sister Nivedita's version of the Ramayana story called Pot-Ear. I couldn't think of a good idea to exactly parallel Pot-Ear. Pot-Ear is Ravana's younger brother who sleeps for like 10 months at a time. Ravana needed Pot-Ear to wake up because he needed Pot-Ear to help him fight Rama, Hanuman, and Angada. Ravana sent the rakshasas to go wake up Pot-Ear but they couldn't so they had to do all this crazy stuff to wake him up. Hence why I made some of The Avengers beat up on Bruce to wake up The Hulk. I thought it would be a good idea to use The Hulk to resemble Pot-Ear, because in Infinity Wars, The Hulk just didn't want to come out. Of course I had to add someone to be the actual villain, so Loki was a perfect choice. The way The Avengers forced The Hulk to go back to Bruce was the way Rama killed Pot-Ear.

  1. Your story is amazing! I am a huge Marvel fan, so when I saw the title I clicked right away. I love how you incorporated the Marvel into the Ramayana. I have read two versions of the Ramayana so far and neither version has mentioned Pot-Ear, so I am really interested to learn about Pot-Ear. It is cool that each version of the Ramayana have a few differences in names and even the way events take place. I applaud you for inserting the video into your blog. That is what I needed to see. The Hulk slamming Loki into the ground made my day. Thank you!

  2. How interesting that I just praised another student's story because they too ditched the characters and kept a story line. I had not yet read any story that did that, until I read that story, which I read right before reading yours! I think it is a brilliant idea!! I absolutely love it, and am excited to try out this new strategy. I really liked how you used marvel character. Great way to emphasize a small part of the Ramayana and turning it into a whole story. Great Read!

  3. Hey Victoria,
Right when you said that Steve was able to relax for a little bit, I knew that was the age old jinx. Using Loki to be the Hulk's trigger to come out is great because, as the video shows, the Hulk really likes to beat up on Loki. It has always been difficult to stop the Hulk but the team has gotten better at it and it shows here as they used their teamwork to bring back Bruce. I don't remember the story of Pot-Ear but I think he might have had a different name in the version that I read. Good story!

  4. Hey Victoria, I really enjoyed this story because it related Marvel comics into it and I am obsessed with all of the Marvel movies that are coming out lately. I appreciate how you talked about Pot-Ear which is not a character that I have heard of before, and I am excited to see more if you decide to continue with him in your stories to see how he will develop! Great job!
