Sita still hasn't been found, even after looking for a month in the north, west, and east. The host did look in the south though. They looked in the woods and all the caves and hiding places until they reached the ocean.

Varuna: God of water

The monkeys sat on the beach because they knew if they went back to Sugriva, the monkeys would get in trouble.

Eventually Sampati, a vulture, overheard the monkeys talk about his brother Jatayu. Sampati then tells the monkeys that he saw Ravana carrying Sita to Lanka, which was far across the sea.
