Beaky Buzzard was traveling alone and reflecting on the recent passing of his brother, Toni Buzzard. Beaky Buzzard loved his brother and was in tears just thinking about how he died. But Beaky Buzzard knew that Toni Buzzard didn't die for anything! Toni Buzzard was trying to save Lola Bunny from the evil Tasmanian Devil and bring Lola Bunny back to Bugs Bunny.
While Beaky Buzzard was walking near the beach, he heard Tweety, Porky Pig, and Sylvester talking amongst themselves.
"Wh-what are we going to do?" Tweety said nervously.
"We already looked North, East, and West! Plus all the forests and caves in the south." Sylvester yelled. "
"We cant cross the sea either because Daffy Duck makes the waves too harsh" Porky Pig explained.
The three friends ran out of ideas. They couldn't go back because Marvin the Martian would throw them in jail for not bringing Lola Bunny back to Bugs Bunny.
Beaky Buzzard approached the three friends and told them about his brother Toni Buzzard.
"My brother Toni Buzzard saw Tasmanian Devil take Lola Bunny away and far across the sea. My own brother... He tried to save her... Please, please find Lola Bunny so my brothers death wasn't for nothing!" Beaky Buzzard begged.
"But how do we get across without feeling the wrath of Daffy Duck? We wont survive in the sea!" said Tweety.
"You have to go talk to Bugs Bunny to let him know where Lola Bunny is. With this knowledge he will be able to build a bridge to travel across the sea. Then he will be able to defeat Tasmanian Devil and safe his wife! Tweety, Porky Pig, and Sylvester, I am counting on you." Beaky Buzzard said with hope.
And so, Tweety, Porky Pig, and Sylvester set out to find Bugs Bunny to save Lola Bunny!
Authors Note: I based this Storytelling over Sampati. This story is about how Sampati came across the monkeys who were in charge of finding Sita, Rama's wife. They looked in the north, east, and west but couldn't find her. They also looked in the south but were then stopped because of the sea, which is home of Varuna, the God of Water. Sampati approaches the monkeys to tell them about his brother Jatayu.
Since this was a rather short story, I expanded a bit on my storytelling version by making Beaky Buzzard tell Porky Pig, Tweety, and Sylvester to go find Bugs Bunny.
Tweety, Porky Pig, Sylvester = monkeys
Beaky Buzzard = Sampati
Lola Bunny = Sita
Bugs Bunny = Rama
Marvin the Martian = Sugriva
Daffy Duck = Varuna
Tasmanian Devil = Ravana
Toni Buzzard = Jatayu

Hi Victoria,
ReplyDeleteI liked this take on the story from the Ramayana! It gives it a very playful, mid-century twist.
(It can definitely be a little hard to keep track of who's who with the extra layer of names, though that's just because we're all starting to get familiar with the actual names from the Ramayana.)
Daffy Duck as a god of the sea is an image I was not expecting, but that I really like now that I have it.
Best,
A.
Hey Victoria! This was a really fun twist on the original tale! I like how you included a lot of active dialogue, which helped to keep the story moving with continuous action. I did find it a little bit difficult to keep track of who was who, but honestly I found this difficult even with the original Ramayana! It was really nice that you included the character equivalents in the author's note to help clarify this.
ReplyDeleteI love this! Like a lot! I love the incorporation of Looney Tunes in this story, it’s so different but it had me grinning with each introduction of a new name. It was also fun trying to place who was supposed to be who, and for the most part I got it right. The exception was that I thought that Beaky Buzzard was supposed to be Rama which further confused me because I thought Laksmana was dead. I think that was just my misunderstanding and I wouldn’t necessarily say it needs cleared up. Giving me the information at the end of who’s who was very helpful! I have to say, it’s cracking me up that Tweety is a monkey! I noticed that Laksmana isn’t actually mentioned, maybe he should be? I feel like Rama and Laksmana are the duo that just go together. In every story I’ve read thus far, them two are always together. Though, I loved this rewrite of the story.
ReplyDeleteHi Victoria I enjoyed reading your short story, Beaky Buzzard. I like how you did a Looney Tunes themed story. The Looney Tunes have always been a child hood favorite of mine. When I read your story in took me back to the time where I would come home from take care and turn on the Loony Tunes. And let us not forget the most iconic movie of all time, Space Jam! My thoughtful question about the story is why is there a sea in Looney Tunes haha. It is unique because I am trying to think way back but I can not recall Looney Tunes ever using the ocean or the sea in an episode. My only suggestion for your short story would be to find a way to add in Yosemite Same! You have all the main characters in here except for him, you cant leave him out haha. Again I enjoyed reading your story!
ReplyDeleteHey Victoria!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this retelling! I am a super big fan of Space Jam, so this hit me right in the nostalgia feels. I really liked how you made the cartoon characters dialogue match their character, like I could hear Tweety bird speaking nervously. If you continue to write in this style (which I really think you should!) Who would Lakshmana be, as he is a very important side character in the overall story. What if instead of a big battle like in the Ramayana, you changed it into a basketball game like in Space Jam, you could even make Vishnu Michael Jordan
