one day there was a dog who liked to visit an elephant that lived in the kings stables. the dog first started to go there to get food that was left over from the elephant. after weeks of going to grab the elephants left overs, the dog and the elephant became best friends. the elephant started sharing his food with the dog and they would eat together. the elephant and the dog also slept together. they would play together too. the elephant would swing the dog around with his trunk.
a farmer came by the stables and saw how the dog was acting. the farmer wanted the dog because he seemed smart and well tempered. the elephant keeper didn't care for the dog, so he gave the farmer to dog for a decent price.
the elephant became depressed. he didn't bathe when he was supposed to and he refused to eat. the king heard of the elephants nonsense and wanted to know why his elephant was doing this. the elephant keeper told him that there was a dog who he played with, but was sold awhile ago. the king wanted the dog back so the elephant can play with the dog again.
so the elephant keeper sent word to everyone to tell the farmer to release the dog. no one knew where the farmer lived so they had to rely by word of mouth. when the news finally got to the farmer, the farmer released the dog. the dog came running back to the kings stables and the elephant was happy again.
