Drona had taken in the princes to train them as his pupils. One day he called them together and sat them in front of him. Drona explains to them that he wishes for them to promise him. The promise it for when they are skilled enough, they will carry out a purpose that he holds in his heart.

None of the princes said anything. The air filled with silence until Arjuna spoke up. Arjuna is the third prince of the Pandavas. He eagerly told Drona that he will promise carry out the task. Drona embraced Arjuna and from there on they had their own special bond.

Eventually, other princes from other kingdoms came to learn from Drona. All the Kurus and Pandavas princes were Drona's pupils. Among those pupils was Karna. Karna was an adopted son of a famous charioteer. Karna expected to be the very best and help himself high. Because of Karna's big ego, him and Arjuna became rivals. Karna and Arjuna was always trying to outdo each other in archery skills.

Karna only hung out with Duryodhana and his other brothers than with the Pandavas, since Arjuna is a Pandavas. While Karna spent his time with Duryodhana and the brothers, Arjuna spent his time training. Arjuna took every chance he was offered to learn new skills and because of this his skills outgrew the others.

One night Arjuna was practicing shooting in the dark. While Arjuna was practicing, Drona approached him and told him that there is no other person that is equal to his strength.
